چکیده
Ecuador is located between latitudes 2°N and 5°S and limits the Pacific Ocean on the west, Colombia on the north, and Peru on the south and east (Fig. 1). Its capital, Quito, stands at 2850 m (9350 ft.) above sea level. The country has four different geographic regions, the Coast (west of the Andes), the Sierra (Interandean highlands), the Amazon (east of the Andes), and the Insular region (Galapagos Islands). It is also divided into 24 provinces; six in the Coast, 11 in the Sierra, six in the Amazon, and one in the Insular region. Ecuador’s surface area is 256,369 km (98,985 sq miles). The population in the last National Census in 2010 was 14,483,499 and it is estimated to be above 15 million as of 2015 (National Institute of Census and Statistics, INEC, www.inec.gob.ec). Life expectancy in Ecuador is 75.6 years (CIA, World Fact Book). Its gross domestic product (GDP) per capita was $5932 with a GDP growth rate of 4.05% in 2013 (Ecuadorian Ministry of Finances).

A Comparison of the Sensitivity of the BayesC and Genomic Best Linear Unbiased Prediction(GBLUP) Methods of Estimating Genomic Breeding Values under Different Quantitative Trait Locus(QTL) Model Assumptions
The objective of this study was to compare the accuracy of estimating and predicting breeding values using two diverse approaches, GBLUP and BayesC, using simulated data under different quantitative trait locus(QTL) effect distributions. Data were simulated with three different distributions for the QTL effect which were uniform, normal and gamma (1.66, 0.4). The number of QTL was assumed to be...

This year Molecular Genetics & Genomic Medicine (MGGM) turns 5 years old. For the editors of this journal it is time for some reflection, “looking back and looking forward”. The first issue appeared in May of 2013, 60 years after the publication by Watson and Crick’s discovery of the double-helical structure of DNA and 10 years after the completion of the Human Genome Project. The work for this...

Multiple Inherited Thrombophilic Gene Polymorphisms in Spontaneous Abortions in Turkish Population
The aim of this study was to investigate the possible role of multiple inherited thrombophilic gene variations in women with unexplained spontaneous abortions. For this purpose, the Factor V Leiden (FVL) (rs6025), Prothrombin G20210A (rs1799963), MTHFR C677T (rs1801133), PAI-1 4G/5G (rs1799889), ACE I/D (rs1799752), eNOS E298D (rs1799983), and Apo E E2/E3/E4 (rs429358) polymorphisms were genoty...
متن کاملAchieving Effective Treatment Goals against New Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) by Identifying the Molecular Details of the Virus Genome
Introduction: We are currently faced with a global epidemic of a new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that It affects not only thousands of people in China, but all over the world. The rapid increase in cases appears to be related to the active genome of the virus, which may affect its pathogenesis. An understanding of the novel coronavirus genomic organization will help us in understanding their origi...
